Precious in HIS Sight

Precious in HIS Sight

by Rhonda Barrett ~

“Living Water” was my theme a few months ago at the 25th Annual Northwest Deaf Christian Women’s Retreat October 28-30. The verse I chose was Psalm 42:1, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, my God.”RHugBible

My focus was the importance of spending time with Jesus and reading His word…as we run the race that God has set before us.

All weekend there were problems with my Power Point (although during the laptop check my Power Point worked). The last morning I was to share, my Power Point wouldn’t even open up.

I silently prayed, “Lord, now what?”

Then…I knew what to do…turn off the Power Point and go back to the “old fashion way”. The laptop was turned off, the screen on the stage was blank, and I asked the ladies to get their Bibles out.

WOW, something special happened when we opened our Bibles together. I would share a scripture reference and wait…I looked out at the ladies and watched them opening their Bibles. Since not all the ladies had a Bible, I saw groups of two or three ladies sharing a Bible together. It was a beautiful sight to see. After the ladies read the verse from the Bible…I would sign the verse…and teach/expound on God’s Holy Word.

As I consider my emphasis for the weekend, time with Jesus and reading God’s word, it made sense that we would read from our Bibles.

It was an awesome time in the Lord with my sisters-in-Christ at the 25th Annual Northwest Deaf Christian Women’s Retreat in Cannon Beach, Oregon.

One morning after arriving home from the Retreat, I was in my “prayer closet”. My “prayer closet” is our living room. Each morning I enter our living room and before sitting down I open the living room window blinds. This time of year it is still dark outside. But as time goes by it becomes lighter and lighter outside as the sun comes up. I was sitting in my “prayer chair” reading my Bible with my journal, prayer calendar, and devotional on the table next to me.

During my “quiet time”, I just happened to look up and out the window–there was a huge deer looking at me! Gary was just entering the living room and I signed to him, “Look out the window.” He, too, saw the deer. It’s antlers were very big. We live a few blocks from downtown Everett, Washington. We do not live in the woods, and yet there was this huge deer in our backyard, a few steps from our patio, looking at me.

I thought of Psalm 42:1 but from a different perspective, from God’s perspective. “As the deer pants for streams of water, so My (Jesus’) soul longs for you (Rhonda).” What a thought! What a truth! God longs to be with you and me! Surely, we love Jesus because He first loved us!

There is a prayer that I pray…and I encourage you to pray this prayer too, “Lord Jesus, may my soul long for You more and more. May all that is within me praise Your holy Name. Help me to live a life that pleases You. Help my life be an example of Your faithfulness, Your love, grace, and mercy to others…especially to my family. May my life have an impact on my loved ones as they see You, Jesus, in me. Lord God, it is by Your grace that my life does, indeed, impact those I love. Thank You.”

In addition to our life example, something else that has an impact on our loved ones is our prayers. In James 5:16b it reads, “The prayer of a righteous person (mom/dad) is powerful and effective.”

Precious His Sight February 2017A tool that has helped me faithfully pray for my family everyday is the Precious In HIS Sight Parent’s Prayer Calendar. To the left is this month’s Calendar. My dear friend, Marva Gehm, makes the Calendar each month.

Click on the Calendar and it opens in another window-enlarged–so you can easily read the Bible references. There is a Bible reference for each day of the month. Find the verse-for-the-day and look it up in your Bible; then turn the verse into a prayer.

I print the Calendar and keep it with my Bible. I encourage you to do that too.

As I close this month’s letter to you Deuteronomy 6 comes to my mind (verses 6-9), “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”

For thy Kingdom…In Jesus Name, Amen!

We believe the Deaf are the most unreached people group in the world…they are the least, the lost, the last to ‘hear’ the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I ask you to prayerfully consider partnering with us through your prayers and financial support as we continue sending HIS Light and Truth to Deaf people everywhere. THANK YOU!”
