I Can Hear My Savior Calling

by Diane Musil ~

“I Can Hear My Savior Calling”

It all began at the Sea of Galilee as Jesus was walking by (see Matthew 4:18-21).

He (Jesus) happened to look and see two men–Andrew and his brother Peter. The two men were throwing their nets into the sea and trying to catch their day’s supply of fish. This was their occupation.

Andrew heard Jesus talking to Simon Peter, “Come, follow Me, and I will show you how to fish for people!”

Perhaps Peter thought in his mind, “How can we fish for people? We are just plain, simple fishermen putting out our nets in the sea every day, spending many hours by the sea.comefollowme

You and I cannot see inside Peter’s mind, however the scriptures actually show us his instant response to Jesus’ booming loud and clear voice, “Follow Me!” Jesus wanted Peter to learn a new kind of fishing. He wanted to open Peter’s eyes and heart to what it means to fish for people.

So here is the big question! Follow who? Follow Who? Follow Jesus, the Son of God!

Most people might look at each other and say, “We can’t follow You; we have so many things to do and to take care of. Don’t you know we are so very busy, Lord?”

But Andrew and Simon Peter found themselves responding–as though something inside them quickened their reply. Truly it was the gentle but firm nudge of the Holy Spirit.  It only takes a second to know the voice of God!

Immediately–Peter and Andrew left their nets.

Immediately–Peter and Andrew followed Jesus.

Now, let’s see what happened next! Jesus saw two more brothers–James and John, the sons of Zebedee. These two men also worked in the fishing business. They both were in a boat mending their nets.

Can you imagine Jesus calling out the same words, which rang with spiritual authority, causing these two rough fisherman brothers to obey without question, “Come, FOLLOW ME”!

Immediately both James and John found themselves dropping their nets, and climbing out of their boat.

Immediately–James and John left their boat and their father who was also in the boat.

Immediately–James and John followed Jesus.

Think about the sacrifices these four men made as they followed Jesus–without looking back. They left their boats, their homes, and their families.

Do you and I sense that same Holy Spirit inside our own soul calling us, drawing us to “Come and follow Jesus”? FOLLOW JESUS!

The cost is real, but seems of little importance when compared with the strength and joy of the Call.

Letting go is where strength is released inside us.

RECOGNIZE the AUTHORITY of His Voice.

RESULT was that Peter, Andrew, James and John immediately followed Jesus.

RESULT was the establishment of the early Church and the spread of the Gospel–CONQUERING THE DARKNESS OF SIN TODAY.

Think about the cost–a total change of focus. It could mean dropping a great job you love with all the benefits, to follow the Call of God into an unknown but spiritually rich future. Or perhaps moving your whole family to a different country because of the nudge of God’s Holy Spirit.  Jesus says, “My sheep hear My Voice” (John 10:27a).

The eternal future of people around the world is affected by the response Christians make when they hear His Voice.

SONG:  “Where He Leads Me” (“I Can Hear My Savior Calling”)

I can hear my Savior calling.
I can hear my Savior calling,
I can hear my Savior calling,
Take your cross and follow, follow Me.

 Chorus:
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow,
I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

I’ll go with Him through the waters (trouble and tribulation),
I’ll go with Him through the waters,
I’ll go with Him through the waters,
I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

I’ll go with Him through the Garden (Intercession and agony),
I’ll go with Him through the Garden,
I’ll go with Him through the Garden,
I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

I’ll go with Him to dark Calvary,
I’ll go with Him to dark Calvary,
I’ll go with Him to dark Calvary,
I’ll go with Him, with Him all the way.

He will give me grace and glory,
He will give me grace and glory,
He will give me grace and glory,
and go with me, with me all the way.

The Call of God echoes throughout all the generations. “FOLLOW ME” has been the Call for centuries and one by one, people have answered, “YES” and paid the cost.

I BELIEVE THAT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A GREATER NEED FOR THE CHRISTIAN TO OPEN HIS/HER HEART AND HEAR THE VOICE OF GOD THAN TODAY.

What is your decision?
