It seems like yesterday that…

It seems like yesterday that…

by Rhonda Barrett ~

I cannot believe it!  Just a few days ago the leaves on the trees here in Oklahoma were still green. Then, all of a sudden, they began to change colors…bright reds, oranges, and yellows. Yesterday I took a picture because I wanted to show you how beautiful the colors on the trees are this year; however, today, I took a new picture because the leaves had changed so much.  The change happened so fast.

God’s colors are awesome…this is the view from my kitchen.

As I thought about how fast the leaves changed colors, it reminded me of how fast time goes by.

It seems like yesterday I was a young 29 year old wife and mom. It seems like yesterday I was rocking my babies in my arms. It seems like yesterday I was watching my toddlers take their first steps.  It seems like yesterday my boys started kindergarden. It seems like yesterday…

In reality, now, my sons are grown men with families of their own.  I am 29 x 2, married for 37 1/2 years (to the same man, thank God!), and a grandma with five beautiful grandchildren!

In James 4:14b it reads, “Your life is like a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” God made us on purpose, for His purpose, so it just makes sense serving the Purpose Giver.

It seems like yesterday my beautiful granddaughter, Estella, was born...but actually, we just celebrated her FIRST BIRTHDAY!

As I look back at my life, I am overwhelmed with thanksgiving. I thank God for being in my life—it’s made all the difference in the world. I thank God for all He has done. It’s an awesome thought really, when you think about it, that somehow when we thank God, when we recognize every good and perfect gift is from Him, when we acknowledge and praise God from whom all blessings flow…it blesses Him, The Almighty One!!!  WOW!!!  I have to pause for a minute and meditate on that thought.

Parents, when we tell our children (and grandchildren) how thankful we are that they are in our lives…it has a powerful, positive influence on them and especially on their “preciousness”. It greatly blesses them.  Something else we can do that is tremendous, even a miraculous blessing in our children’s lives, is to pray for them. It says in James 5:16b, “The prayer of a righteous person (Mom and Dad) is powerful and effective.”

To the left is the Precious in HIS Sight, Parent’s Scripture Prayer Calendar for this month. The Calendar as a tool that helps me as I pray God’s word over my loved ones.  Praying the word of God is powerful.  I encourage you to join with me.  Click the Calendar and it opens enlarged…find the day of the month, look up the verse in the Bible, and turn God’s word into a prayer for your children, family, and loved ones.  (I print a copy of the Calendar and keep it with my Bible.)

This year during Thanksgiving we will also celebrate Christmas with our family.  (We share them with the in-laws, and next year it will be our turn to have them for Christmas in December.)  That means, Lord willing, I’ll have some Thanksgiving/Christmas pictures to share with you next month…and I look forward to that.

As I close, I’d like to share a song I learned when I used to visit my Grandma and attend church with her.  I loved to go to church with Grandma. May this song be our prayer this month of Thanksgiving.

“Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise Him all creatures here below.

Praise Him above the heavenly host.

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen!”

You and your family have a very wonderful Thanksgiving  with God’s presence.
