Resurrection Day! The Same Spirit Lives in You!

by Gary Barrett~

So much could be said about Easter.  Easter is the most profound event in the history of mankind; it truly changed the course of history–and still is changing the course of history even today.Gary&RhondaSeattle

Have you ever thought about this?  Had the resurrection of Jesus Christ never happened, there would be no Christmas.  In fact, there would be no Christians, no churches, no Savior to save us from our sins, and there would be no eternal life in heaven.  The resurrection of Christ is the central theme of Christianity.  Paul says, “And if Christ had not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins” (1 Corinthians 15:17).

Have you ever wondered why we call it Easter and not Resurrection Sunday?  I was reading about this in an article and found a small tidbit of information that I’d like to share with you.  The article says, “The origins of Easter are rooted in European traditions. The name Easter comes from a pagan figure called Eastre (or Eostre) who was celebrated as the goddess of spring by the Saxons of Northern Europe. A festival called Eastre was held during the spring equinox by these people to honor her. The goddess Eastre’s earthly symbol was the rabbit, which was also known as a symbol of fertility. Originally, there were some very pagan (and sometimes utterly evil) practices that went along with the celebration. Today, Easter is almost a completely commercialized holiday, with all the focus on Easter eggs and the Easter bunny being remnants of the goddess worship.”

Sad isn’t it?  Something so pure, so profound, so earthshaking, so life changing, has been turned into Easter bunnies, baskets filled with candy, and dyed eggs.  I’m not trying to be down or critical of some of the fun activities that we allow our kids to participate in during Easter, but I think it’s unfortunate that Easter, like Christmas, has become so commercialized that we have forgotten the true meaning of what Easter really is about–Jesus has risen from the dead!

He IS Alive!  What more wonderful reason could we have to celebrate?!  Today, the world needs to see the resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Yes, they do, and Yes, they can.  How?  Through the way we live our lives. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is the same power that has given us a new life!  “When we were baptized, we were buried with Christ and shared his death. So, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the wonderful power of the Father, we also can live a new life!” (Romans 6:4).

If the resurrection of Jesus Christ changed history, then surely–we who believe in a risen Savior and eternal life with Him–will be profoundly changed, so much so, that it will be evident in every area of our lives. Paul says in Romans 8:10-11, “And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.” Wow, that’s a profound and powerful statement!  The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in you and in me.  Isn’t that powerful?

Dear friend, as you and I reflect on the resurrection of Jesus this Easter, I pray that we will experience a new revelation, a new understanding, and a new hunger and desire to live the resurrected life that Jesus gave us the power to live each and every day. The way we live our lives should reflect the resurrected Christ, so that the world who does not know Him, will see that there is something truly different about us.  No, not us, but that they will see Jesus in us.

People around us–our family, our friends, our coworkers–we want them to see this resurrected Christ in us as Paul explained, the SAME Spirit that raised a dead Jesus is the SAME Spirit that dwells in our bodies.  That is the power of God living in us!  In ourselves we all fall short.  However, as we surrender to the Holy Spirit’s control in our lives–we shine, radiate, and glow with love, grace, mercy, and the power of God in our words and our deeds.  That’s what it means to live the resurrected life!

Millions and millions of Deaf people are lost and living in darkness.  Within each one of us lives His light, His love, and the power of God through the Holy Spirit.  Let’s show the world that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead does indeed live in you and me! Do we really want to make a difference for Christ?  When we begin to live the resurrected life we will see the power of God touching and changing lives like never before!  The risen Lord lives in us–Wow, that’s powerful!

Enjoyed your article Gary. Many people have no idea of the pagan roots of “Easter”. I don’t call it that but instead “Resurrection Day”. Because He LIVES we live!
    God bless you!

Hi Gary. Yes, big amen! Thanks so much for educating me about the pagan easter celebration. I didnt know the meaning of it, either. I always said ” HAPPY RESURRECTION.” to the believers. I’m so glad, that I have been saying that. I tell people, and believe with all my heart, that ” HAPPY RESURRECTION.” to me is every day. Because, HE LIVES,I LIVE ALSO. Not one year event. Hallelujah! The Lord keep blessing you, and Rhonda. Love, Allan, and Yamile.

Yes, today is after Resurrection Day but AMEN to the comments on celebrating it EVERYDAY! From Acts 17:28 (NIV), “For in Him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are His offspring.'” It’s SO AMAZING that Jesus gave up His earthly life and has risen to eternal life so we (those who have received Jesus) can have assurance of eternal life in Heaven! PRAISE YOU, JESUS THE KING OF KINGS!

  • I need to add the following: “AND LORD OF LORDS” (Rev. 19:16 KJV).

    Thanks,

    David

  • Hi David, Inspiring comments you share. AMEN! Blessings always, Gary and Rhonda
