Just a text message…made a BIG difference!

Just a text message…made a BIG difference!

by Rhonda Barrett ~

I have been struggling to write this month’s Precious in HIS Sight. I shared my heart with Gary and he encouraged me, “Remember all of the people through the years who have told you they’ve been blessed by your Precious letter and the Calendar each month?”

Awww, yes, I remember––I remember the people from past years; and I also thought about the people who responded last month, in August, to the One Thousand Gifts Dare.

Then, right at that exact moment, I could not believe what happened! I received a text message. It was from a dear sister-in-Christ who is a supporter and prayer warrior of this ministry. God prompted her to send me a text message––which included a picture that touched me deeply as it had special meaning to me. Following is a copy of her text:

I stared at the picture and her text message a few seconds, stunned, and then I stood up. I got Gary’s attention and walked over to him. I excitedly signed, “You are not going to believe what just happened! Look!” I handed my phone to Gary and showed him the picture of the Precious in HIS Sight Calendar from 2004 and my dear friend’s words, “Hi Rhonda, Memories! Sending love and hugs.”

WOW! What a blessing from the Lord…Father God is faithful and He ministered straight to my heart!

On the Precious in HIS Sight Calendar from 2004 there is a very special picture on it––a picture of Rex’s wife, Lanie, holding our first grandchild, Beaux! Beaux will be 14 years old next month! He is our only grandson; we have FIVE granddaughters. Time has gone by so fast!

I have copied and pasted that Calendar here so that you’ll be able to click it and see it more clearly enlarged:

Gary encouraged me. My dear friend encouraged me. GOD ENCOURAGED ME! I realized it was God who gave Gary the words to encourage me; it was God who put the idea in my friend’s heart and mind to send the picture of that 13 year old Precious Calendar along with her text message…at exactly the perfect moment! Incredible! Amazing!

I am reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:8b, “…your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him!”

THANK YOU, FATHER GOD! He used Gary to bless me. He used my dear friend to bless me.

And you know what? Father God wants to use you and me to be a blessing to others, too. And one way is by being obedient when the Holy Spirit whispers to our hearts and minds a thought, an idea of something to do. It is easy to dismiss the idea as “IT’S JUST MY IDEA”. But stop, think. This just might be, and probably is, an idea from Father God’s heart to reach out and touch someone in need.

Something else we can do that is a blessing to others is pray for them. Our prayers are powerful! It says so in James 5:16b, “The prayer of a righteous person (mom or dad) are powerful and effective!”

Something that has helped me through the years faithfully pray for my loved ones is the Precious in HIS Sight Prayer Calendar. This month’s Calendar is to the left. When you click on the Calendar it enlarges in a separate window so that you can read the scripture references easily. Look up the verse-for-the-day and then turn it into a prayer for your loved ones. I print my Calendar and keep it with my Bible. Feel free to print the Calendar, too. (My dear friend Marva Gehm makes the Calendar each month…she does a great job…thank you Marva…you are a blessing to each of us who use the Calendar.)

Friend, I pray that you are as encouraged as I am…just knowing that…Father God knows what we need even before we ask. And it is my prayer that we be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s promptings when He, in fact, wants to use us to reach out to someone in need.

An update from last’s month’s One Thousand Gifts DARE. If you started the One Thousand Gifts Dare with me, I encourage you to keep counting. As the song says, “Count your many blessings name them one-by-one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

And THAT truly is my experience––the Lord’s surprises, His love-gifts, unfolding one-by-one, poured out right in front of my eyes…If I just pause, take time, pay attention to watch and see.

Let me share what I wrote in my One Thousand Gift’s Journal recently.

#147. Text message from a dear friend with picture of Precious Calendar from 2004, Lanie is holding Beaux.

By the way, If you’ve not yet accepted the Dare…I encourage you to start now. Your eyes will be opened to see His blessings…and an amazing thing happens…being thankful brings JOY!

And now a few of God’s gifts in pictures…JOY for the eyes and heart:

For thy Kingdom…In Jesus Name, Amen!

We believe the Deaf are the most unreached people group in the world…they are the least, the lost, the last to ‘hear’ the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I ask you to prayerfully consider partnering with us through your prayers and financial support as we continue sending HIS Light and Truth to Deaf people everywhere. THANK YOU!”

My Dear Big Sister! I love reading this newsletter! I love that you are so in love with Life! I love the way you love God! God has DANCED through my life as well… and I have a special appreciation for the little things all around us that show us how much He loves us! How can anyone see a rainbow, and not smile? How can anyone hold a child and not know the truest of unconditional love?? Exactly the kind of Love that He has for all of us! His mercy and grace have brought me through some very hard times in the last ten years, and I am forever grateful and thankful. I am also grateful and thankful to have a big Sister in my life like you! Love you always! Monique Cole

  • Dear Monique, You surely have been through so much; you are amazing little Sis. And I’m so thankful that you are in my life too. When I make it to California (hopefully sooner than later) it would be great for us three sisters to get together. I’ll keep you posted. What a joy to read your comment! I so agree with you. Just imagine, we not only have the same father…we have the same Father! Awesome! You are a beautiful writer? You know that…right? Have you considered writing a book 🙂 I love you always, too.
